Deep excavation is required for drain or sewer repairs where engineers need to expose pipework at significant depth, often 15ft or more, to complete a safe and permanent repair.
This procedure is commonly required for larger buildings, commercial sites, housing developments, highways and public realm locations where damaged drains or sewers sit close to foundations, utilities or neighbouring infrastructure.
Our drainage team has the experience, plant and site procedures needed to deliver complex excavation repairs safely, with careful planning around access, temporary works and reinstatement.
Deep Excavation Repairs for Commercial Sites and Managed Properties
Deep excavation is also applicable where several sewer connections enter a building, yard or development within a relatively confined space. The work may be required on private land, adopted highways, commercial premises or managed residential schemes.
If the main drain pipe feeding a site suffers damage such as root intrusion, fracturing, collapsed sections or misaligned joints, excavation can be required to rectify the problem while reducing the risk of disturbing neighbouring pipes, foundations and utility cables.
Trust Quinn Developments for Planned, Safe Excavation Works
Deep excavation repairs are a specialist drainage activity. The engineer and site team must understand the condition of the drainage asset, the depth of the trench, the surrounding ground conditions and the location of nearby gas, water, electricity and telecoms services.
Disturbing buried services or unstable pipework can create serious safety and operational risks. We use tracing, inspection and site assessment methods to help plan works properly, including CCTV drain surveys where visibility of the defect is needed before excavation begins.
Applications and Permissions
If deep excavation repairs are carried out on privately owned commercial land, the permissions required will depend on the site, ownership and wider works being undertaken.
Where excavation takes place on a public road, pavement or adopted asset, permissions may be required from the local authority, United Utilities or other relevant bodies. Our team plans works with health and safety, access, reinstatement and disruption in mind, helping protect site users, employees and the public.
A Thorough Pre Dig Survey
Before excavation is attempted, a thorough inspection and survey is conducted by our drainage team. CCTV inspection can be used to determine the location, depth and cause of the problem, supporting a more targeted repair.
Before excavation is considered, our engineers will assess whether a less invasive method, such as drain relining, is suitable. Excavation becomes necessary when pipe joints, lateral connections, collapsed sections or surrounding ground conditions mean relining is not the right option.
